The company also owns subsidiaries including Bigstock, Offset, PremiumBeat, Rex Features, and Shutterstock Custom.
Choosing Dublin for R&D
In February 2018, Shutterstock established an R&D development centre in Dublin. Attracted by the combination of available technology skills and multilingual talent, the company planned to fill an initial 40 engineering roles, with the potential to grow the team further in the years ahead. The project is supported by the Irish Government through IDA Ireland.Shutterstock’s Irish engineering team combines people working in the Dublin office and hybrid workers around Ireland. They use advanced techniques in machine learning, computer vision, cloud computing and analytics to drive the development of capabilities around advanced search, personalisation, recommendation, and intelligent digital rights management.
In the beginning, the engineering hub site focused on specific products including the company’s Bigstock business, and continued development of its editorial platform, Shutterstock Editorial.
Advancing its Irish operations
Since setting up in Ireland, Shutterstock has moved its core search platform, metadata services, and contribution systems to the Irish site. These new functions mean that Shutterstock in Ireland now has full responsibility for the company’s global content lifecycle.How Ireland Helps Shutterstock
